Reading the IT news headlines every day can have a dizzying effect. Things move at such a pace it can be difficult to detach and see the bigger picture. In just the past few days alone, we’ve seen a major DDoS attack take Wikipedia offline across most of Europe and parts of the Middle East. We’ve also witnessed one of the men behind the notorious Satori IoT botnet plead guilty. And we’ve seen a Japanese car maker become the latest firm to suffer a major BEC incident: this time costing the firm in excess of $37m.
How can we join the dots between all these and the multitude of other industry trends and events that bombard us every day? It’s a challenge that Trend Micro’s CLOUDSEC conference was made for.
Five years on
Life moves pretty fast if you’re a cybersecurity professional. In just the past five years we’ve seen the threat landscape shift significantly, as ransomware, BEC scams, crypto-jacking, and fileless malware techniques have emerged, evolved and spread. All this amidst a growing security skills crisis, brazen nation state attacks that would have seem impossible a few years ago, and a regulatory landscape becoming more complex by each passing quarter.
Five years ago Trend Micro set out to try and help cybersecurity leaders make sense of the madness with a new type of conference. Lasting just one day, the idea was to invite experts from around the globe, and from all backgrounds — including academia, non-profits, cloud providers and law enforcement — to share their expertise via a series of short, insightful keynotes. CLOUDSEC was born.
Over the years we’ve continued to listen to feedback from attendees to make it more relevant each time. That’s why at CLOUDSEC 2019 you’ll notice a new focus on the sharing of case studies and war stories by CISOs at global organisations. This is a world away from the nebulous generalisations you’ll hear at many security conferences. CLOUDSEC offers practical insight and expertise to help the average CISO cope better with the daily obstacles thrown in their way.
