The UK’s IT decision makers have it pretty tough. On the one hand the sheer range, volume and persistence of threats today make it virtually impossible to keep digital corporate assets 100% safe. But on the other, the outrageous hyperbole spread by security vendors in what is an increasingly crowded market makes finding the right tools more challenging than it’s ever been. In these situations, the opinions of journalists, independent reviewers and customers themselves become incredibly important.
That’s why Trend Micro is thrilled to have won the Best Cloud Security Product (Deep Security) and Best Enterprise Security Product (Deep Discovery) at the highly respected V3 Technology Awards last week. A huge thank you to everyone who voted for us.
It’s no secret that today’s CISOs face an unprecedented set of challenges. Financially motivated cybercrime gangs, publicity seeking lone wolf hacktivists and even state-sponsored operatives are all a potential threat. And the tools to launch sophisticated, highly targeted data-stealing attacks are no longer in the hands of just the few. The rise of ransomware has also caught many by surprise – taking advantage of careless employees and poor patch management to generate hundreds of millions for the bad guys. Trend Micro blocked over 100 million such threats this year and spotted 50 new ransomware families in the first five months of 2016 alone.
Add to this static or declining security budgets and the proliferation of BYOD, cloud services, wearables and IoT and the modern CISO has a lot to think about today. These new technologies are powered by complex virtual and cloud environments, which demand security tools designed exactly with these environments in mind. Traditional tools can leave too many security holes and result in severely restrictive performance issues.
It can be hard to know where to find the right products in a market with a bewildering array of choice. Which is why independent arbiters are important to seek out. The beauty of the V3 Technology Awards is that vendors are short-listed by the editorial team at the highly respected business technology site. And then the winners are chosen by readers of the site – who are mainly IT professionals. So, our double win there on Friday is great validation of the popularity and success of Deep Security and Deep Discovery among the IT end user community.
Deep Security is our flagship security platform for data centres. Designed from the ground up to protect physical, virtual and hybrid cloud environments from a single console it features an impressive range of protection capabilities including anti-malware with web reputation, host-based firewall, intrusion detection/prevention, integrity monitoring, app control and log inspection. And close partnerships with VMware, AWS, Azure and more make for the most effective, high performance security around.
Deep Discovery, meanwhile, protects against everything from ransomware to targeted attacks. It features advanced sandboxing for high detection rates and monitors all physical, virtual, north-south and east-west traffic, all network ports, and more than 100 protocols for unrivalled visibility.
The threat landscape today is such that CISOs must assume their organisation has been or will at some point be breached. The key is finding the right products to catch the bad guys as soon as possible, before they have time to do much damage. And that, according to V3 and its readers, means Deep Security and Deep Discovery.
